Anthony Elanga has confessed to feeling frustrated towards his reduced role at Manchester United this season.
The 20-year-old winger was a regular starter at the end of last season but has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag, starting only five Premier League games and struggling for minutes in cup competitions.
There were rumors that Elanga would leave United in January, with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund both mentioned as potential suitors, but a deal never materialized, and the Sweden international has remained on United’s bench.
“It’s frustrating,” Elanga admitted to Afton Bladet. “You want to have fun. It is critical. But if you don’t play, it’s up to the coach, not me.

“I spoke with Erik, and it is between the two of us.” I know what he wants me to do, and all I have to do now is keep working hard. “All I have to do is be ready to seize the opportunity when it presents itself.” We have a lot of discussions, not only about it but also about what is going on around us. That’s one of the benefits of the club; we talk a lot and they help me a lot.”
Elanga also admitted that talks about leaving Old Trafford had taken place in January.
“There was talk about it,” he said, “but right now I’m focused on United.” “We still have a long season ahead of us and need to finish strong.”
“That was in January; now I can’t concentrate on it.” The best I can do is concentrate on the rest of the season before speaking with the club. I enjoy the club, but it is critical that I play. I’m still quite young. We’ve spoken with the club, and both they and I are aware of what is required.”
