Manchester United is set to confirm Ruben Amorim as Erik Ten Hag’s permanent successor today, October 31, after wrapping up successful negotiations with Sporting Lisbon.
The 39-year-old coach will reportedly remain with Sporting for the next three matches, including an anticipated Champions League clash with Manchester City, before taking charge at United. According to The Athletic, Amorim’s debut on the United sidelines is expected after the November international break, with his first match being an away game against Ipswich Town on November 24.
Sky Sports reported that United agreed to pay Sporting an additional one million euros, on top of his 10 million euro release clause, to expedite Amorim’s release.
The shift in leadership follows United’s disappointing start under Erik Ten Hag, which concluded with a 2-1 loss to West Ham and left them in 14th place in the league. With mounting pressure to turn around the season, the club prioritized Amorim as its primary choice to lead the team.
Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy has stepped in as interim manager and recently led United to an inspiring 5-2 League Cup victory over Leicester City. On his role, Van Nistelrooy shared, “I came to support this club, and I’ll continue to help however I’m needed, both now and moving forward, as we work toward a brighter future for United.”
