A man from Mauritius faces terrorism charges for allegedly sending threatening emails to a French organization aimed at halting the Olympic Games in Paris.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson Shiva Coothen, “A French organization received terrorist threats indicating the sender’s intention to disrupt the scheduled Olympic Games beginning on July 26 this year in France.”

Interpol France conducted an investigation and traced the threat back to Mauritius. Subsequently, Interpol Mauritius identified the suspect through his IP address.

The suspect’s electronic devices have been confiscated for further examination.

Authorities are investigating whether others were involved in the alleged threat.
