President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his sincere hope for divine insight to enlighten his critics about the commendable efforts of his government.

During a significant event in Kumasi addressing both power challenges and the inauguration of the Anwomaso 1 Thermal Power Plant, the President of Ghana appealed for understanding and acknowledgment of his administration’s endeavors amidst recent criticisms.

“What I earnestly pray for is divine enlightenment for our leaders who may not fully appreciate our development initiatives, to recognize and value our efforts,” he expressed.

He urged citizens to remain patient amidst recent power challenges, known locally as “Dumsor,” while assuring swift action to resolve the situation.

Addressing the commissioning of the Anwomaso 1 Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 150 megawatts in Kumasi on Wednesday, April 17, President Akufo-Addo directly tackled the issue of unstable electricity supply across the nation. He reassured Ghanaians of his government’s proactive measures to address the power crisis and mitigate its impact.

The inauguration of the Anwomaso 1 Thermal Power Plant signifies Ghana’s commitment to ensuring sustainable electricity supply, particularly in the Ashanti Region. President Akufo-Addo highlighted the significance of such projects in meeting the nation’s growing energy needs amidst population growth and economic expansion.

During the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his administration’s dedication to nationwide development, emphasizing the importance of essential infrastructure for progress across Ghana.

Despite the challenges posed by power outages, President Akufo-Addo urged citizens to remain optimistic. “I do acknowledge the challenges that the people of Ashanti and indeed other parts of the country have faced recently regarding power supply. I appreciate your patience during these difficulties,” he acknowledged.

Ghana has been grappling with erratic power supply for months, with calls for the release of a load-shedding timetable proving unsuccessful. The Public Utility Regulatory Commission fined ECG board members for noncompliance after directives to release a timetable were ignored. The Energy Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s recent remarks about creating a personal timetable further sparked public outrage.
