The release date for Netflix’s six-part Nigerian crime thriller “Shanty Town” has been announced.
The Xavier Ighorodje and Chichi Nworah production tell the story of three Lagos-based hustlers who band together to fight the state’s biggest and most ruthless crime ring.
Nollywood veterans like Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Shola Shobowale, Shaffy Bello, Ali Nuhu, and Uche Jombo star in Shanty Town. Zubby Michael, Nancy Isime, Yaw Naija, Omowunmi Dada, Mercy Eke, Shola Sobowale, Regina Daniels, Judith Audu, and Peter Okoye, one-half of the iconic Nigerian music duo P-Square, also appear in this star-studded show.
“Shanty Town is a unique show in that it is both different and familiar,” says Chichi Nworah, the show’s producer, of the upcoming release. The redemption story will particularly resonate with audiences who are familiar with the grit and hustle mentality of Lagos, as well as other fast-paced and vibrant cities around the world. We are highlighting the city’s underbelly and bringing to life the various character dynamics that exist beneath the cover of everyday “normal life,” in order to tell a truly unique and compelling story. I can’t wait for everyone to see Shanty Town!”
On January 20, 2023, the show will premiere globally and exclusively on Netflix.
