Coachella was transformed into Trochella by Metro Boomin.

The super-producer capped off Day 1 of the festival in Indio, California, with an explosive set that included a slew of surprise guests such as The Weeknd, Future, and 21 Savage. Fans flocked to the Sahara Tent for the 10:30 p.m. performance, which was one of the busiest of the day. Morgan Freeman, the show’s narrator, started things off by introducing Young Metro as the hero here to save Coachella.

Metro appeared fifteen minutes after the scheduled start time, aided by John Legend, to perform his Heroes & Villains intro “On Time.”

Then it was Future’s turn, who kicked things off with “Superhero” and ran it back with hits like “I Serve the Base,” “Thought It Was a Drought,” and “Mask Off.”

Don Toliver followed him with “Too Many Nights” and “I Can’t Save You” with Future. 21 Savage was the next avenger to join Metro’s superhero team, with songs like “Runnin,” “Bank Account,” and “No Heart.”

The night was capped off by The Weeknd, whose not-so-surprise set was the night’s highlight.

Abel, dressed entirely in white, began with “Faith” and “Escape From L.A.” before transitioning into “Heartless” and “Low Life” with Future.

He also performed his new song “Double Fantasy” for the first time, with saxophone help from Mike Dean. The song, which he teased earlier this week, is set to appear on his upcoming album The Idol Vol. 1.

To cap off the evening, The Weeknd and 21 Savage collaborated on Metro’s top 5 hits “Creepin’,” which featured a surprise appearance by Diddy.
