Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has announced that Enzo Fernandes will not be included in the squad for their upcoming match against Manchester United. The decision comes in light of the impressive midfield partnership developing between Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, which Maresca believes is enhancing the team’s overall performance.

During a press conference on Friday, Maresca explained the reasoning behind his decision, stating, “Right now, the balance of the team is crucial. Romeo and Moi are making significant contributions with their skills and physicality in midfield. This balance allows us to explore different tactical options, such as utilizing Malo Gusto in various roles when Enzo isn’t on the pitch.”

Maresca also addressed the media’s curiosity about Fernandes’s absence, clarifying, “I understand there’s interest in Enzo’s situation, but it’s quite simple: he isn’t starting in this match. With a busy fixture schedule ahead, he will certainly have his chances in the future. Not playing this time doesn’t mean he’s out for the long term; it’s just a tactical choice for this particular game.”

In addition to Fernandes, Maresca confirmed that winger Jadon Sancho will also miss the clash against Manchester United due to illness. Sancho has been unwell in recent days and, even without the illness, he wouldn’t have been eligible to play against his parent club.

“Other than Jadon, our squad is in good shape and ready for the match,” Maresca said. “Everyone else is fit to contribute, but Jadon will be sidelined due to his health issues and the rules regarding players facing their parent clubs.”

With these developments, Chelsea will be looking to put their best foot forward against Manchester United, relying on the strong performance of Lavia and Caicedo in midfield. Fans are eager to see how Maresca’s tactical choices will play out in this highly anticipated encounter.
