The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Section on Public Interest and Development Law has initiated legal proceedings against the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa. The NBA-SPIDEL is seeking her removal from office, alleging violations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act.
The lawsuit, led by NBA-SPIDEL Chairman John Aikpokpo-Martins and Secretary Funmi Adeogun, challenges Musawa and music promoter Kenny Ogungbe’s eligibility for the NYSC after surpassing the age of 30, as mandated by the NYSC Act Cap N84.
The plaintiffs argue that the mobilization of Musawa and Ogungbe for the national youth service was illegal and unpatriotic. They seek nullification of the certificates issued to them by the NYSC, asserting that they are void.
The lawsuit aims to declare that Musawa and Ogungbe are ineligible for employment by any employer, including the Federal Government of Nigeria, without presenting valid NYSC certificates. Additionally, the plaintiffs seek a declaration that Minister Hannatu Musawa is unfit to hold public office due to alleged violations of Sections 2(1), 12(1), and 13(1) of the National Youth Service Corps Act, Cap. N84, LFN 2004.
