In recent operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made significant interceptions, showcasing the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
At Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, NDLEA operatives apprehended a 40-year-old businessman, Ikeje Chibuike, attempting to board an Ethiopia Airlines flight to Vietnam via Addis Ababa. Concealed in his luggage was 1.45 kilograms of cocaine, as reported by NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement released in Abuja.
Chibuike was taken into custody on Saturday, March 2, after NDLEA officers conducted a thorough search, uncovering the illicit substance factory-fitted in his bag. The suspect claimed he was on a business trip to Vietnam.

Meanwhile, on Friday, March 1, NDLEA’s special unit targeted a drug syndicate operating in Lagos, conducting raids on various hideouts. One operation led to the discovery of 10.012 kilograms of methamphetamine at Esimone Amachukwu’s residence on 14 Arochukwu Street, Ejigbo. An associate, 40-year-old Evelyn Nneka, was found in possession of the substance. Esimone, however, remains at large.
Simultaneously, another team of officers raided the residence of 45-year-old Ebele Iwuegbunam at Plot 1604 Close D, 4th Avenue, Festac town, Lagos. Iwuegbunam was arrested, and 429.5 grams of cocaine and 7 kilograms of heroin were seized from his possession.
These operations mark significant strides in NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and secure communities against the harmful impacts of illicit substances.
