Nigeria’s election commission has promised to immediately turn over all materials related to last month’s disputed presidential election to the opposition.
The commission’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, stated that it had nothing to hide.
The opposition Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) want access to election data to support a legal challenge to the outcome.
They have a little more than a week to file their case.

If the election commission denied access to the information, Labour threatened nationwide protests.
According to the official results, the governing party’s candidate, Bola Tinubu, won the presidential election.
His challengers, Labour Party’s Peter Obi and Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar, subsequently obtained a court order granting them access to inspect the electoral materials.
These include information contained in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and the electronic devices at the center of the controversy.
