Akin Osuntokun, Director General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to follow the Electoral Act’s guidelines or cancel the entire election process.
On Monday, Osunkotun made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja.
According to him, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), promised free and fair elections to Nigerians with the passage of the new Electoral Act, and the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, also repeatedly promised free and fair elections to Nigerians and the global community.
He went on to say that the electoral body had repeatedly stated its readiness to hold free and fair elections, but that none of the promises had been kept.
“All promises made about deploying a fair, secure system based on Bimodal Voter Accreditation System technology were broken,” he said.
“Videos and photographic evidence of the pervasive violence and attacks that were visited on Nigerians are being watched on the Internet and social media, with some attacks still ongoing in some parts of the country as we speak.”

He also stated that the evidence of collusion between INEC and security forces to subdue popular rule was too numerous to detail.
“The INEC guidelines on the conduct of elections were extensively bridged and inec has evidently been very reluctant to make adjustments to remedy the situation.
“Contractually to publicly advertised guidelines and conducts of the elections were convinced that the processes leading to the results had been severally compromised.
“As a result, we regret to inform you that we have lost faith in the results that are being compiled and announced.”
“We thank Nigerians for their support for our candidate, and we assure you that some mandates will be surrendered to a desperate gaggle of fair rulers who have done nothing but cause problems in our dear country,” he added.
“We hope that Nigeria remains peaceful and rule-abiding while assuring that we are doing everything within the law to protect your sacred mandate.
“We hereby call on INEC to suspend the announcement of the results in the future and follow its soon guidelines, or to completely cancel the election and plan for another election in strict compliance with the stipulated laws and guidelines,” he urged.
