Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to visit Nigeria next month, according to a statement from a military official. The invitation for the visit came from the country’s chief of defence staff, with the aim of strengthening Nigeria’s presence at the Invictus Games and exploring the possibility of hosting the event in the future.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex share a significant bond with Nigeria, especially after the country’s successful debut at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games last year. Nigeria made history by winning gold and bronze medals, becoming the first African nation to participate in the event.

Prince Harry initiated the Invictus Games in 2014, which is a sports event designed for military personnel wounded in action. During Nigeria’s participation in the event held in Dusseldorf, Germany, last year, Nigeria’s defence minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar expressed keen interest in hosting the games in Nigeria.

While the exact date of Harry and Meghan’s visit is yet to be announced, it is anticipated that they will partake in various activities during their trip, including meeting military members and experiencing local cultural traditions.

The news of the royal visit has sparked excitement among many Nigerians, especially considering Meghan’s ancestral ties to the country. In 2022, Meghan revealed that genealogy tests indicated she has Nigerian ancestry, further deepening her connection to the nation.

Social media platforms have been abuzz with welcoming messages for the royal couple, showcasing Nigeria’s enthusiasm for their upcoming visit. As of now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not publicly commented on the invitation, but anticipation for their visit continues to grow.
