The Commonwealth Observer Group has raised concerns over the lack of clarity in the tallying process of Sierra Leone’s presidential election results, leading to allegations of a lack of transparency.
The group has called upon the electoral commission to enhance transparency as it announces the remaining results.
Currently, with 60% of polling stations tallied, the commission has reported that the incumbent, Julius Maada Bio, is leading, closely followed by his main rival, Samura Kamara of the All People’s Congress (APC).

Yemi Osinbajo, the chairman of the observer group, acknowledged in a statement that the election has been largely peaceful. However, there were some reports of logistical challenges that caused delays on the day of the election.
“We were impressed by the significant turnout of voters and the generally peaceful conduct of the elections, which is a testament to the determination of the people to consolidate Sierra Leone’s democratic progress,” Mr. Osinbajo expressed.
