Patti LaBelle Honors Tina Turner with Powerful Performance at BET Awards.
Patti LaBelle delivered a mesmerizing tribute to her dear friend and music legend, Tina Turner, at the BET Awards on Sunday night.
Taking the stage, LaBelle paid homage to the incomparable Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, capturing the essence of Turner’s extraordinary legacy with her soul-stirring performance.
The audience was treated to LaBelle’s rendition of Turner’s iconic hit, “The Best.”
After her powerful performance, LaBelle spoke with ET’s Kevin Frazier backstage, expressing why it was so meaningful for her to honor Turner at the event and what the tribute meant to her personally.
“For me, it didn’t matter what condition my voice was in—I could be hoarse, battling a cold—but I had to give it my all for Tina Turner because she is simply the best,” LaBelle emotionally shared, reflecting on the late icon. “So, you might have heard a little crack in my voice out there, but I love her, and I did my absolute best.”
Last month, Turner peacefully passed away at the age of 83 after a long illness at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland. Her representative confirmed the sad news, highlighting Turner’s unique legacy and her immense impact on rock music.

Born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee, Tina Turner rose to fame in the late ’60s as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. She later achieved global success as a solo artist, captivating millions of fans with her music and incredible vitality. Turner’s impressive career includes unforgettable hits like “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Private Dancer,” and “The Best.” With over 180 million albums sold, 12 Grammy Awards, and decades of sold-out stadium tours worldwide, she leaves behind an indelible mark on the music industry.
In the wake of Turner’s passing, numerous stars paid tribute to the music icon, including Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé, Cher, Angela Bassett (who portrayed Turner in the 1993 biographical film “What’s Love Got to Do With It”), Diana Ross, President Barack Obama, Dolly Parton, Mick Jagger, and many others.
Additionally, BET honored Tina Turner with an exclusive one-hour special titled “BET & ET Present Tina Turner: Life and Legacy,” which featured archival footage spanning over 40 years and interviews with Turner herself, providing a comprehensive look at her illustrious career and personal journey.
Turner is survived by her husband, German music executive Erwin Bach, whom she married in 2013, as well as her adopted sons Michael and Ike Jr. She had tragically lost her sons Ronnie Turner in December 2022 and Craig Turner in July 2018.
