Paul Scholes, the former Manchester United midfielder, expressed his belief that the club’s manager, Erik ten Hag, could face dismissal following the team’s humiliating 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace. Ten Hag’s squad was anticipated to secure victory against the inconsistent Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night, May 6. However, the team collapsed entirely, conceding goals from Michael Olise (twice), Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Tyrick Mitchell.

The defeat plummeted Manchester United to the 8th position on the league table, tying with Chelsea at 54 points in 35 games.

Following the defeat, Paul Scholes, who provided analysis on Premier League Productions alongside Michael Owen, remarked that it seems unlikely for Erik ten Hag to continue at United beyond this season. He stated, “It’s been a tough one. Michael’s been sensing it for a while, and the indications have hinted that it’ll be tough for him to stay on next year. But tonight felt like the final blow, really. It felt like the end. If it is, I’m not sure what options are available at the moment. I thought he might have another year and work for a club that’s settled a bit with new ownership, but it doesn’t seem likely now.”

Manchester United players are anticipated to bounce back from the humiliating defeat as they face Premier League title contenders Arsenal on Sunday, May 12.
