The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) isn’t holding back when it comes to Peter Obi’s recent promise. The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate made headlines after pledging to serve only one term if elected in 2027 — a vow the PDP finds both confusing and unnecessary.

Speaking from Abuja, Timothy Osadolor, the party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, called Obi’s statement “unfortunate” and claimed it sends the wrong message in a constitutional democracy.

“We’re working within a system that allows a president to serve for up to eight years,” Osadolor pointed out. “So, making a public commitment to just four years doesn’t add value — if anything, it risks trivializing the electoral process.”

He argued that real leadership isn’t about dramatic promises but about demonstrating the competence and vision to move the country forward.

“If you’ve got the skills, the experience, and the heart to lead, that’s what should drive your campaign — not emotional appeals designed to sway voters,” he added.

In his view, Nigeria is in a moment that calls for steady leadership — someone capable of healing divides and making tough calls.

“This isn’t the time for gimmicks. It’s the time for solutions, for unity, and for real direction,” Osadolor concluded.
