Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, is on the verge of being named Chelsea manager after negotiations between the two parties reached a conclusion.

According to the Telegraph, the two sides have held rounds of talks and are now set to finalize an agreement that will see the Argentine take over at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino is said to be putting together his backroom team, with the Argentine bringing in Jesus Perez as assistant manager and head of conditioning, as well as Miguel D’ Agostino as first-team coach.

Chelsea fired Graham Potter at the beginning of this month and appointed Lampard as interim manager until the end of the season.

Former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann emerged as the frontrunner for the job at first, while former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique was also a serious contender.

However, Nagelsmann is thought to have dropped out of a move to the West London club, while Enrique’s future is being questioned, leaving Pochettino as the standout candidate.
