Usher is currently working on an album.
The R&B legend is working on his first full-length album in seven years. During an interview, Big Boy revealed that a release is on the way.
“I’m getting ready to launch my next album,” Usher said, noting that he has reconnected with former LaFace executive L.A. Reid, who produced his early albums.
“We’re working on something really, really incredible,” he continued. “In my mind, it’s going to be an amazing piece of history.” Every album, I try to create something that I believe is appropriate for the time. I’m not thinking about the past. I am aware of it, but I want to create something to which I feel connected.”
He promises that the follow-up to 2016’s Hard II Love will be released this year, despite the pandemic. “By the end of this year, you’ll have that album.”
Last month, he released his seductive single “GLU,” and he’s been in the studio with Lil Jon and Sean Garrett.
“Of course, Usher and I are also working on an incredible album together,” Garrett recently revealed to Rap-Up. “We’re following [‘GLU’] up with a couple of monsters for the clubs and the rest of the world!”
Usher has a new label deal in addition to the album. The single “GLU” was released by Gamma, a new company founded by former Apple Music executive Larry Jackson.
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of his seminal album Confessions, and he’s planning something special. “There will be a lot of incredible activations next year,” he hinted.
Usher, who wants to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, recently announced a string of European dates. His “Rendez-Vous Paris” residency begins September 24 at La Seine Musicale and promises an all-new experience complete with costumes and special effects.
Meanwhile, you can catch Usher during his “My Way” residency in Las Vegas, which runs until October. On May 6, he will also headline the Lovers & Friends festival in Las Vegas.
