Improving Quality of Secondary Education
President Akufo-Addo’s Perspective President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has shared his belief that the quality of secondary education has experienced a significant boost under the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, diverging from common opinions.
He pointed out that despite the notable surge in enrollments due to the policy, students are achieving comparatively better results in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) than in previous years. The President also emphasized that the Free SHS initiative has contributed to achieving gender equality at the SHS level, asserting that the policy is unbiased.

Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome of the 2022 WASSCE, President Akufo-Addo attributed its success to the effectiveness of his administration’s educational strategies. Speaking at the Queen Girls Senior High School event in the Western North region, he highlighted the remarkable progress in the 2022 WASSCE outcomes compared to preceding years. He confidently stated that the results from the previous year’s examination underscore the positive influence of the Free SHS policy.
He expressed, “The 2022 WASSCE results stand out as the best in the past eight years. This surely puts to rest any doubts about the value of the Free SHS policy and the positive changes it has brought.”
The President affirmed his dedication to sustaining the policy, ensuring that deserving students whose parents are financially constrained can continue to access quality education without financial obstacles.
