On Tuesday, reporter Meghann Cuniff released a new memo regarding the Tory Lanez trial. The memo, published during the highly publicized case, revealed that Los Angeles prosecutors recommended a 13-year sentence for Lanez’s involvement in the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

The memo emphasized the power of words and how Lanez used both his actions and his online presence to inflict harm. It stated that Lanez’s online posts over the span of three years had re-traumatized the victim and emboldened his followers to participate in the re-traumatization.

The prosecution also addressed Lanez’s fifth studio album, “Daystar,” which they believed was an example of the artist profiting from his crimes. Furthermore, they highlighted a phone call between Lanez and Megan’s former friend, Kelsey Harris. The prosecution argued that the call, along with an apology text, could only be interpreted as Lanez apologizing for shooting the victim, despite the defense’s claims that it was about alleged relationships.

In December 2022, Lanez was convicted on three counts related to the incident, including assault and firearm charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 13, and the maximum sentence he could face is 22 years and eight months in prison. The memo emphasized Lanez’s lack of remorse as an aggravating factor to be considered by the court during sentencing.
