King Charles III and other dignitaries attended a service of thanksgiving at St. Giles’ Cathedral after the casket of Queen Elizabeth II was transported there from Edinburgh’s Palace of Holyroodhouse. Before being transferred to London, her body will now repose there for 24 hours.
The children of the Queen marched behind her coffin as it was carried up the Royal Mile in the Scottish capital. Streets were lined with people, almost silent.
Shakespeare’s remark that the Queen was “a pattern to all princes living” was cited by the King in his earlier speech to the UK’s Parliament.
The funeral for the Queen will be held in London on September 19th.
