Manchester United’s defender, Raphael Varane, has officially announced his departure from the club after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.

Varane, hailed as one of Manchester United’s significant signings in 2021, joined the Premier League side from Real Madrid for an initial fee of £34 million. Despite encountering fitness challenges, Varane made 93 appearances across all competitions during his tenure at the club.

Although Varane’s time at Manchester United saw limited silverware, including just a Carabao Cup victory, the French football legend’s illustrious career prior to his arrival at Old Trafford speaks volumes.

While Varane was expected to extend his contract with Manchester United before June 30, 2024, he reportedly declined the club’s offer. Consequently, the 31-year-old former France international will pursue his career elsewhere following his departure.

Before bidding farewell, Varane has one last opportunity to clinch another title with Manchester United as they face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 25, 2024.

In a heartfelt message to Manchester United supporters, Varane expressed his deep affection for the club and its fans, describing his time at Old Trafford as a cherished experience. He emphasized the special bond he and his family formed with the club, considering it a second home.

Despite the challenges faced during the season, Varane remains optimistic about Manchester United’s future, highlighting the club’s clear plan and strategy under new ownership.

Varane concluded by expressing his anticipation for an emotional farewell at Old Trafford during the last home game of the season, acknowledging the profound impact the club and its supporters have had on his career.
