This weekend’s La Liga game between Real Madrid and Valencia has been postponed due to severe flooding in eastern Spain, which has tragically claimed over 95 lives. The Spanish football federation (RFEF) also suspended Villarreal’s home match against Rayo Vallecano as well as several other matches in the region affected by the flash floods.

La Liga formally requested the RFEF to call off both Valencia and Villarreal’s matches set for Saturday, along with three additional second-division games in the impacted areas.

In their statement, the RFEF announced, “Matches in both professional and non-professional competitions, including 11-a-side and indoor football, scheduled in the Valencia region will be postponed.”

Earlier in the week, several Copa del Rey first-round matches, including Valencia’s face-off with Parla Escuela, had already been rescheduled. To honor the flood victims, a moment of silence will be observed at games across Spain this weekend, including Barcelona’s derby clash with Espanyol on Sunday.
