According to the UK Times newspaper, US Vice-President Kamala Harris’ desire to visit the house where she once lived with her grandfather in the 1960s has prompted a search for the property.
Ms. Harris, who is on a nine-day trip to three African countries, is scheduled to visit Zambia this weekend, making her the 18th top American official to visit the continent since January of this year.

As a child, she visited her grandfather, VP Gopalan, an Indian civil servant stationed in Zambia to assist with refugee settlement after the country gained independence.
According to The Times, the US embassy in Lusaka has asked the public for assistance in locating Mr. Gopalan’s former residence while also attempting to retrace Ms Harris’ “childhood connections with the country.”
According to her office, the trip to Africa is expected to strengthen the US’ partnerships throughout the continent on “security and economic prosperity.”
