Security operatives are on high alert in Abuja as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day. With festivities underway, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 3,500 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to maintain safety and order.

Addressing the officers, FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu emphasized the need to protect critical national assets and ensure the safety of all residents during the celebrations. “The people and government of the FCT rely on us to ensure a peaceful Independence Day,” he said. “As the seat of power and home to global diplomatic missions, we must carry out our duties with the highest level of professionalism.”

Odumosu urged personnel to follow the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) and maintain constant surveillance on vital infrastructure. He also called for close collaboration with other security agencies to prevent any disruptions.

The command’s spokesperson, Samuel Idoko, explained that the deployment is aimed at safeguarding public and private properties while securing critical national assets. Special units such as the Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Squad, Agro Rangers, and undercover officers have been dispatched to cover the entire FCT, including area councils and the city center, ensuring comprehensive security coverage during the celebrations.
