According to Somali authorities, sustained military operations against the al-Shabab terror group have reduced militant attacks across the country by 70%.
The Somali cabinet said on Thursday during its weekly meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, that efforts to ensure the stability of the capital, Mogadishu, had also been successful, allowing members of the public to peacefully observe the holy month of Ramadan.

Since launching the campaign in south-central Somalia last year, the army has retaken at least 80 villages and towns, according to the cabinet.
Since August 2022, government forces have been conducting an offensive against al-Shabab, aided by clan militias.
Prior to the operation, militants increased their attacks, particularly in Mogadishu and on army bases, killing dozens of government officials, civilians, and members of the armed forces.
