Southern African countries have agreed to send troops to the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s east, where dozens of rebel groups are fighting.
The decision was made at a meeting of the regional body SADC, which was attended by several heads of state, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi.

An East African regional military force has been deployed in eastern DR Congo since December, primarily to counter the threat posed by the M23 rebel group.
It is widely reported that Rwanda is behind it, though Kigali denies this.
Nearly a million people have been displaced since it re-launched a rebellion in late 2021.
