The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has uncovered substantial funds in the accounts of former Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah. According to an exclusive report by Joy News, the OSP revealed that significant amounts of money were discovered in various accounts owned by the former Minister. This includes five million dollars and forty-eight million Ghana cedis found in a Prudential Bank account, as well as ¢1 million cedis in investments and ¢700,000 in cash in her Societe Generale account.
Details from the investigation led by Kissi Agyebeng’s Office further disclosed that during a search at her residence in Abelemkpe, cash amounting to $590,000 and ¢2,730,000 in cedis were discovered. It’s noted that the former Minister’s cedi and dollar accounts have been frozen by OSP as part of ongoing investigations.
Cecilia Abena Dapaah was arrested by the OSP on July 26, and both her official residence in Cantonments and private residence in Abelemkpe were searched. It is alleged that the theft occurred between July and October 2022.
In related developments, two more individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case involving the alleged theft from the former Minister’s residence. During a court hearing presided over by Judge Afia Owusu Appiah on August 2, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Nyamekye, the case prosecutor, revealed that two additional suspects have been arrested.
Already, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and counts of stealing related to the case. Furthermore, three others, Benjamin Sowah, Kwaku Botwe, and Malik Dauda, were facing charges of dishonestly receiving the allegedly stolen money.
The primary suspects, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, were accused of stealing various personal belongings belonging to Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah. These items included valuable clothes, handbags, perfumes, jewelry, and other possessions.
