The Super Eagles have secured their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), even with one match left to play in the qualifiers.

Libya’s narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali confirmed Nigeria’s qualification. With the loss, Rwanda remains five points behind Nigeria, making it impossible for them to surpass the Super Eagles’ tally, regardless of the outcome of their upcoming clash in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Monday.

In their recent outing, the Super Eagles played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Benin Republic. The result ensures Nigeria will finish as group leaders in the qualifiers.

Currently, Nigeria tops Group D with 11 points from five matches, followed by Benin Republic with seven points and Rwanda with five. Libya sits at the bottom of the table with four points. For Benin Republic to secure second place, they must defeat Libya in their final game or rely on Nigeria to beat Rwanda in the last round while avoiding a loss themselves.

The Super Eagles are aiming for glory after finishing as runners-up in the previous AFCON edition, where they lost to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final.

Victor Osimhen, one of Nigeria’s standout players, continues to make history. His goal against Rwanda on Thursday marked his 23rd for the national team, placing him alongside the legendary Segun Odegbami as the joint-second highest scorer for the Super Eagles.
