SuperSport, Africa’s largest pay-TV operator, has officially announced that it won’t be airing the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The decision follows SuperSport’s inability to secure the broadcasting rights for the tournament scheduled to kick off on January 13 in the Ivory Coast. As the AFCON unfolds, all eyes across the continent will be on the fierce competition among 24 teams vying for the coveted title in this month-long tournament.

SuperSport has announced that it won’t be broadcasting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, scheduled to take place from January 13th to February 11th, 2024. The statement clarified that SuperSport couldn’t secure the rights for airing the continental football spectacle.

In light of this, the statement assured fans that AFCON 2023 matches would still be accessible through partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels. Multichoice Africa, the parent company, emphasized its ongoing commitment to providing football enthusiasts across Africa with unparalleled access to entertainment and football games on DStv and GOtv platforms. These include popular leagues such as the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Zambian Super League, and more of football’s prestigious competitions.

On a different note, New World TV, a satellite television network based in Togo, has successfully secured the media rights to broadcast all CAF competitions from 2023 to 2025. This coverage extends to 46 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

As the 2023 AFCON approaches, set to unfold from January 13 to February 11, football fans can anticipate an exciting tournament despite the changes in broadcasting arrangements.
