In connection to the killing of Young Dolph, a third person has been accused.
Three counts, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder, were included in Hernandez Govan’s indictment by a grand jury. According to WMC Action News 5, the charges were brought on November 10 by the Shelby County District Attorney.
Only Govan is accused of conspiring to commit first-degree murder. The fact that the indictment dates from June 2021 suggests that he may have had murderous intentions before Dolph was shot to death.
Justin Johnson, 25, and Cornelius Smith, 32, have also been accused of killing Dolph. Govan is the one who solicited the murder, according to Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy, who told FOX13 that Johnson and Smith shot the Memphis rapper on November 17, 2021, as a result.
There is a criminal past for Govan. He has spent the last 26 years in and out of jail for offenses like narcotics possession and violent violence. Govan was serving time behind bars for an aggravated assault from June 2021, when Dolph was killed.
Johnson has been charged with accessory after the fact along with another guy, Shundale Barnett, who is alleged to have assisted Johnson after Dolph was killed. In Indiana, Barnett was detained before being let go. Since then, a first-degree murder warrant has been issued for Barnett, although it’s unclear if that charge has anything to do with the Dolph case.
Dolph, real name Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., was shot and died at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies about a year ago. He was 36.
