A US terror alert for an affluent area of Johannesburg was called “unfortunate” by Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa. Americans were advised to avoid large gatherings in the US warning. The Sandton suburb is expected to be affected by the alert, which is said to be especially severe over the upcoming weekend.
According to President Ramaphosa, there was no dialogue with the South African authorities before the alarm was sent out. A similar terror notice for Nigeria was issued by the US and three other Western countries on Tuesday.
In the capital, Abuja, non-essential diplomatic personnel is being transferred.
