Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, is taking legal action against Turkish journalist Tolga Bozduman, who accused him of assaulting him at an African restaurant two weeks ago. The hearing for this case is scheduled to begin today, January 27, in Turkey.
Currently on loan to Galatasaray from Napoli, Osimhen has been in top form, playing a crucial role in Galatasaray’s success both in the Turkish Super Lig and the UEFA Europa League. His impressive goal and assist tally has earned him praise, but recently he became embroiled in controversy following an alleged altercation with Bozduman after a 3-3 draw against Dynamo Kyiv.
The journalist claimed Osimhen assaulted him while he was attempting to take photos. However, Osimhen quickly denied the allegations in a video statement shared by Pesindeyiz Galatasaray. “I didn’t hit the journalists; they are lying,” he stated. “If I wanted to hit them, I would have. I told them to delete my photos and asked why they were flashing their faces without permission.”
Osimhen also made it clear that if the journalist was lying, legal consequences would follow. “If I hit him, he’s going to get justice, and if he lied, he’s going to face the consequences of the law.”
Radio host Buchi Laba also reported that Osimhen is pursuing legal action for defamation, with the hearing scheduled for today.
Since joining Galatasaray last summer, the 26-year-old Nigerian international has been in stellar form, scoring 16 goals and providing 5 assists in just 21 appearances.
