Nigerian-British actress Genoveva Umeh recently shared her inspiring journey in a TEDxLagos Women talk, reflecting on her path from growing up in Enugu to becoming a Nollywood star.
Genoveva, who won the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCAs) for her role in “Breathe of Life,” is widely recognized for her performance as ‘Timeyin’ in the Netflix series “Blood Sisters.” Her acting portfolio also includes notable works like “Far From Home” and “A Tribe Called Judah.”
During her TEDx talk in March 2024, she recounted how a two-hour drama class in high school ignited her passion for acting. Encouraged by a friend to attend drama school, she faced the challenge of affording the 400-pound entry fee. Determined to pursue her dream, she took a part-time job at Primark to cover the costs.
Genoveva also opened up about her academic struggles, particularly failing her first year studying law at university, which ultimately became a pivotal moment leading her to focus on her acting ambitions.
Her story of perseverance and determination offers a powerful message: overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities can lead to achieving your dreams.
