The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) refutes claims of clearing former Minister for Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah of corruption charges.

In a recent interview with Joy News, Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko, Director for Strategy, Research, and Communications at the OSP, clarified that Dapaah was not absolved of corruption-related offenses before the case was transferred to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

Darko explained that the OSP concluded its investigation, revealing that the offenses largely pertained to money laundering. Furthermore, Dapaah failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the seized funds from her residence, raising suspicions.

Contrary to speculation, Darko emphasized that EOCO did not request the FBI investigation report. Even if requested, strict confidentiality clauses prevent its direct transfer without inter-agency collaboration and clearance.

The OSP transferred the case to EOCO, providing comprehensive documentation, including caution statements from over 20 suspects across various locations. Additionally, information regarding relatives of Dapaah claiming ownership of the seized assets was provided to aid EOCO’s independent investigation.

Darko likened the OSP’s role to that of a whistleblower, providing vital information to EOCO for further inquiry, a gesture uncommon among agencies.

The investigation into Dapaah stemmed from allegations of corruption following reports of theft involving her domestic staff. Despite advice from the Attorney General’s Office to cease investigations due to insufficient documentation, the police continue to probe the source of Dapaah’s funding, warranting ongoing scrutiny by EOCO.
