Samuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, has assured the public that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will soon release a timetable for the current power outages.
Acknowledging a shortage in power generation, Atta Akyea revealed that ECG has recognized the issue leading to the widespread outages experienced across the nation. Following a meeting with stakeholders in the power sector, he stated that the committee has pressed ECG management to furnish the public with a load-shedding timetable.
Speaking to the press, Atta Akyea underscored their commitment to ensuring the prompt release of the timetable. He assured Ghanaians that the committee will closely monitor the situation to enable effective planning for citizens.
Addressing the issue of power outages, Atta Akyea stressed the importance of transparency and accountability from ECG. He emphasized the need for consumers to be informed about when power will be available to facilitate better planning of their daily lives.
Notably, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) recently reported ECG to the Energy Minister for failing to provide a load-shedding timetable amid the ongoing outages. GRIDCo highlighted the potential risks to the national grid’s stability due to ECG’s reluctance to comply with requests for a timetable.
