Real Madrid is poised to make a significant announcement regarding the acquisition of Paris Saint Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe, once it becomes evident that the two clubs cannot clash in the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League.

Kylian Mbappe has formally notified PSG of his intention to depart the French powerhouse at the culmination of this season as a free agent. Consequently, the 25-year-old French striker is expected to see out his current contract until the summer of 2024 and then join a club of his choosing at no cost.

Reports from Naija News indicate that Mbappe, who has professed his long-standing admiration for Real Madrid since childhood, has purportedly reached a preliminary agreement with the Spanish La Liga giants.

As per the pre-contractual arrangement between the parties, Mbappe has purportedly consented to a reduction in wages, indicating that his earnings upon joining Real Madrid next summer may not match those at PSG.

Furthermore, both parties have agreed that Mbappe will retain 60 percent control over his image rights, given that Real Madrid is only willing to offer him a signing-on fee as low as €40 million.

Despite the salary adjustment, the captain of the France national team is anticipated to become the highest-paid footballer at Real Madrid once the agreement is finalized.

Renowned Spanish football writer, Guillem Balague, reported on the BBC today that although there is no official contract between Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid, the Spanish giants are on the verge of announcing Mbappe’s signing once it is apparent that PSG and Madrid will not meet in the Champions League this season.

It’s worth noting that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer with 244 goals and he netted a goal in PSG’s 2-0 triumph over Real Sociedad in the Champions League round of 16 on February 14.

Real Madrid is also still in contention in the tournament after securing a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the round of 16 first-leg encounter on February 13.

There remains a possibility that PSG and Real Madrid could face off in the quarter-finals or semi-finals if both teams maintain their winning momentum.
