Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has spoken out against the continued detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a post on his 𝕏 account, Ibe emphasized that Atiku has consistently advocated for Kanu’s release, noting that the former Vice President has maintained this stance over the years.

He drew comparisons to other high-profile figures such as former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki, activist Omoyele Sowore, and Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho — all of whom have since regained their freedom.

Questioning why Kanu’s situation remains different, Ibe wrote that even if there were allegations against him, the handling of his trial shows no genuine intent to ensure fairness or justice.

“Atiku Abubakar has been consistent on the Nnamdi Kanu issue. In 2023, he called for Kanu’s release, and in 2024, he proposed a political resolution. Now, he supports Sowore’s #MarchForKanu because it’s the right and patriotic thing to do,” he wrote.

He went on to question the alleged double standards in the system, pointing out that others detained around the same time as Kanu were granted bail while Kanu remains in custody.

“Why is Kanu’s case different? Maybe because of where he comes from,” Ibe remarked, also referencing the government’s past decision to grant amnesty to Boko Haram members.

He concluded by stating that only a political solution can bring lasting peace and fairness to the ongoing issue surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s detention.
