Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has debunked claims that the Presidency ordered his boss to stop holding his monthly media briefings.
Earlier reports had suggested that Aso Rock allegedly directed Wike to suspend his widely followed media sessions over concerns that his comments might stir political tension in Rivers State. Those reports also accused the former governor’s briefings of being laced with harsh remarks and alleged intimidation toward political rivals.
It was further claimed that Wike’s criticism of some Rivers elders—who tried to mediate between him and the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara—had intensified fears of political unrest in the state.
When contacted by Daily Post on Thursday, Olayinka dismissed the claims without hesitation, simply describing them as “Fake.”
As of the time this report was filed, the FCT Minister had not personally addressed the issue. Wike has continued to use his monthly press briefings to explain his policies in Abuja and share his views on national matters.
