Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the British national anthem, God Save The Queen, will be modified.
The song’s message will essentially remain the same, but the pronouns he/him will be used to refer to the coming King Charles III and the royal title “Queen” will be changed to “King.”
The song’s author is unclear, but it was initially performed as a patriotic hymn in 1745, and over time it spread to other countries and was frequently used to welcome visiting monarchs.
Early in the 19th century, it was designated as the official national anthem.
