The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, expressed her condolences over the passing of Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau, the National President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), who passed away on Tuesday.
Kennedy-Ohanenye, during her visit to the NCWS headquarters in Abuja, praised Lami Adamu-Lau as a dedicated mother and advocate for the advancement of Nigerian women.
“She was not just a leader but also a compassionate figure, dedicated to the betterment of Nigerian women and the eradication of all forms of violence and harmful practices against them,” she remarked.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized the need for NCWS members to follow Lami Adamu-Lau’s example by collaborating to ensure women’s active participation in the nation’s socio-economic progress.
In offering condolences to Nigerian women, family, and friends, the Minister encouraged them to find solace in faith, acknowledging that death is an inevitable part of life.
Hajiya Lami Adamu-Lau passed away after a brief illness in Kebbi and has since been laid to rest in her hometown of Lau, Taraba state. She assumed the role of National President in April 2022 and spearheaded numerous empowerment initiatives that benefited disadvantaged women nationwide.
Her efforts also extended to campaigns against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and harmful traditional practices targeting women and girls in Nigeria.
