Job Sikhala, Zimbabwe’s imprisoned opposition MP, appeared in court on Thursday on new charges of disorderly conduct.
According to his lawyer, Obey Shava, the charge stems from an incident in May 2022 in which Sikhala and his supporters allegedly confronted ruling Zanu-PF supporters at a rally and pelted them with stones, injuring one person.

He denies the accusation. Mr. Shava stated that the case was postponed until May after the prosecution stated that it was not prepared to proceed.
It is unclear why the case was not brought before the court for nearly a year.
The accusations were described as “ongoing political persecution” by the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change.
Mr. Sikhala has been arrested on numerous occasions.
