Nigeria’s vice-captain, Williams Troost-Ekong, is set to miss the AFCON 2023 Group A clash with Guinea-Bissau on Monday due to a hamstring injury, as reported from Côte d’Ivoire. The PAOK defender sustained the injury during the 1-0 victory against Côte d’Ivoire, where he scored the only goal from a penalty.

Troost-Ekong’s absence is a concern for the team, given his influential role. The hope is that the player won’t be sidelined for an extended period. Prior to the tournament, the Eagles had already lost key players like Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface, Umar Sadiq, and Wilfred Ndidi to injuries.

A victory against Guinea-Bissau is crucial for the Eagles as it would secure their qualification into the round of 16. The Eagles have faced challenges with injuries, but the team is determined to overcome obstacles and progress in the tournament.

In the other Group A game, Equatorial Guinea, having already secured qualification for the knockout round, will face Côte d’Ivoire in a match that will determine the group standings.
