On Sunday, Mohamed Salah expressed his confidence in winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Egypt, emphasizing the need for improvement in the ongoing tournament. The Liverpool forward, currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury, spoke to reporters ahead of Egypt’s crucial final group game against Cape Verde on Monday.

While Salah won several medals at the club level with Liverpool, he highlighted the AFCON as an unachieved goal, expressing his belief that it will happen “sooner or later.” Despite his absence from the upcoming game, Salah remains optimistic about Egypt’s chances and the team’s motivation to secure victory.

Having made his Egypt debut in 2011, Salah aims to go beyond the team’s recent setbacks in the AFCON finals and clinch the title. Reflecting on the significance of winning the AFCON, Salah stressed the players’ strong motivation and collective desire to emerge victorious.

However, Egypt has faced challenges in the current tournament, requiring an injury-time penalty from Salah to draw with Mozambique and coming from behind twice against Ghana after Salah’s early departure. Despite these obstacles, Salah emphasized the team’s focus, hard work, and the belief that one win can pave the way for further success.

Salah acknowledged his ongoing injury but redirected the conversation to the team’s positive mindset and the upcoming game. Looking ahead, he mentioned the team’s fantastic players and coach, urging them to stay focused and emphasizing the possibility of achieving success with hard work.

As Salah remains sidelined for the next match, Mostafa Fathi of Cairo club Pyramids is expected to step into his position. The team’s goal is to secure a place in the last-16 tie, with Salah targeting a return for a potential quarter-final on February 2 or 3.
