The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Judicial Board has confirmed that rapper Maradona Adjei Yeboah, widely known as Guru, is eligible to run in the 2024 presidential elections.

The board overturned the SRC Vetting Committee’s earlier decision to disqualify Guru based on his non-residential status. They found that the Vetting Committee had misinterpreted Article 30(1)(a) of the SRC Constitution and acted outside its authority.

In its ruling, the Judicial Board stated, “After reviewing the case thoroughly, the board found that the disqualification of Mr. Maradona Adjei Yeboah and Mr. Lawrence Edinam Egleh, based on residency, was unjustified. The Vetting Committee’s interpretation of Article 30(1)(a) was incorrect and lacked proper jurisdiction.”

The decision has cleared the way for Guru to participate in the upcoming elections, reversing the previous setback he faced due to the disqualification. This ruling has revived his presidential bid, marking a significant turn in his campaign.
