Manchester United are reportedly poised to sign Lille’s talented teenage defender Leny Yoro in a £52 million ($69 million) deal.
The 18-year-old, previously linked with European champions Real Madrid, is said to have traveled to England on Wednesday for a medical with the Premier League club. United will pay an initial £52.7 million, with potential add-ons worth an additional £6.7 million.
Yoro, who made his debut for Lille at just 16, is considered one of Europe’s top young talents. His signing would mark United’s second addition of the close season, following the arrival of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna last weekend.
United manager Erik ten Hag has been on the lookout for a new center-back since former Real Madrid star Raphael Varane left Old Trafford at the end of last season. Varane and Lisandro Martinez were the starting center-backs in United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May, a match Harry Maguire missed due to an injury that also kept him out of Euro 2024.
Ten Hag had been pursuing Bayern Munich’s Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt and reportedly had two offers rejected for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
