The Suez Canal has reached its highest daily transit rate since it opened in 1869.
According to the canal authority, 107 ships passed through it in a single day, carrying 6.3 million tonnes of cargo.

One of the world’s largest container ships was traveling from Greece to Malaysia.
The authorities attribute the increased transit rates to a 2016 expansion project.
The Suez Canal, which connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, is one of the busiest waterways in the world.
