Romeo Ricky Roy, the esteemed fitness coach of Ghana’s senior male national team, has passed away, marking a somber moment for the football community.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2024, though the precise cause of his demise remains undisclosed.

Reports from Joy Sports indicate that Roy had expressed feeling unwell, yet his condition deteriorated before he could recover.

Roy gained recognition four years ago for his heroic act during a Division One League match between Vision FC and Agbozume, where he saved the life of player Benjamin Aloma after a serious on-field incident.

Following this remarkable display of courage and skill, Roy was appointed to the Black Stars’ backroom staff under Milovan Rajevac’s leadership in late 2020. He continued his invaluable contribution to the team under the guidance of Otto Addo and Chris Hughton, serving at prestigious events like the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast.

The football community has been deeply moved by Roy’s passing, with tributes pouring in from all corners. Yussif Alhassan Chibsah, PRO for the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), expressed his grief, writing on X: “Ricky Roy Romeo, why sooooo soon my brother.”
