The Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana have jointly announced a 30 per cent increase in transport fares, starting Thursday, March 7.

In a press release issued on Monday, March 4, the two organizations cited the government’s insufficient response to their concerns as the reason for the fare hike.

They emphasized the continual rise in fuel prices, which has significantly impacted their livelihoods and posed challenges in maintaining their operations.

“The fare adjustments are necessary to ensure the financial stability of the transportation sector and uphold the quality of service provided to the public.

“The government’s failure to address this critical issue has left us with no option but to consider fare increments to cope with rising operational costs.”

“We urge the government and relevant authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with our leaders to tackle the sector’s challenges and implement fare adjustments that align with current economic conditions,” they expressed in their statement.

Highlighting the fare adjustment’s importance for business sustainability, they urged the government to collaborate with their leaders to facilitate a seamless implementation of the fare adjustments.
