Wayne Rooney, the former manager of Birmingham City, has spoken out following his recent dismissal from the coaching position. As previously reported, the Manchester United legend was let go due to a disappointing performance record, which the club officially announced on their website.
Rooney’s tenure at St Andrew’s lasted only three months, during which the club’s standings in the EFL Championship witnessed a significant decline. The team, which was previously in the sixth position, dropped to 20th under Rooney’s management. Out of fifteen matches, they secured victory in only two.
His final match, a 3-0 defeat against Leeds United on New Year’s Day, marked a low point for Birmingham City, leaving them with a minimal six-point lead over the relegation zone.
In response to his termination, Rooney expressed his belief that he deserved more time to implement necessary changes and improvements as the manager of Birmingham City. He conveyed his appreciation to Tom Wagner, Tom Brady, and Garry Cook for the opportunity and support during his brief tenure.
In a statement on his official X account, Rooney acknowledged the results-oriented nature of football and admitted that the outcomes did not meet the desired level. However, he stressed the importance of time for a manager to implement changes and expressed his view that the allotted 13 weeks were insufficient.
